Ken Querns Langley
Who we are
Our music school began offering singing lessons in Marylebone London in 2003. Prof. Ken Querns-Langley founded the studio because he felt there was insufficient historically informed Bel Canto training available to singers in London. The studio specializes in the tradition of Manuel Garcia and Lamperti. Through use of exercises handed down from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, we help students to free the natural voice and to understand how their physical and emotional states affect the singing voice, and rectify any negative impact. We also use up-to-date research in voice science to reinforce proper training.
What we offer
We help students free the natural voice primarily through use of Bel Canto technique handed down through my teachers directly from both the Garcia-Marchesi and Lamperti traditions. We help the student to understand how their physical and emotional states affect the singing voice, and rectify any negative impact.
Workshops are typically run between three and five days of singing with a concentration on bel canto technique and interpretation. We work on operatic as well as song repertoire, focusing on technique, style and interpretation.
At the end of each Workshop we either hold a concert or Master Class, sometimes both. In each master class we focus on either performance techniques, national style or language diction, and sometimes even do staging master classes where we focus on staging the arias and ensembles.
